1. Waiting Too Long to Book
Hawaii is one of the most popular wedding destinations in the world, and talented videographers book up fast. On popular dates, especially in spring, early summer, fall, and around holidays, the best ones are gone a year or more in advance.
Couples who wait often find their first and second choices are already taken and end up booking someone they’re less excited about. Start reaching out to videographers as soon as you have a confirmed date, ideally at the same time you’re booking the venue.
2. Choosing Based on Price Alone
Budget is real, and there’s nothing wrong with having a limit. But choosing the cheapest option available often means getting a product you won’t love when the video arrives.

Your videographer is going to be within a few feet of you for most of your wedding day. If you feel awkward or uncomfortable around them, that shows on camera.
Schedule a video call before committing. It’s the best way to gauge whether communication flows naturally, whether they understand your vision, and whether you’ll feel relaxed with them in the room. A good videographer will be just as interested in getting to know you as you are in reviewing their work.
5. Not Clarifying Deliverables Before Signing
Packages vary a lot between videographers, and assumptions about what’s included cause problems after the fact. Before signing any contract, get specific answers: how many hours of coverage, one camera or two, expected delivery timeline, what formats and resolutions you’ll receive, whether a highlight film and a full ceremony edit are both included, and what the revision policy is.
